This paper proposes a comprehensive entropy-based evaluation model of equipment maintainability. Based on an analysis of the general equipment maintenance process and the content of maintainability assessments, an equipment maintainability evaluation index system, which combines qualitative and quantitative indexes, is constructed. The definition of maintenance task complexity, maintenance complexity guarantees, and entropy-based maintenance effects are analyzed. A comprehensive evaluation model of equipment maintainability is established by incorporating three factors which include an entropy-based measurement model of evaluation indexes, an equipment maintenance information structure diagram and behavior control diagram, and an aggregation model of evaluation indexes based on entropy. In addition, the entropy calculation methods for the qualitative index, quantitative index, and weighted equipment maintainability are presented. Finally, this paper provides an example of a comprehensive entropy-based evaluation of equipment maintainability. The results of the case demonstrate that the proposed methods are reasonable and feasible, and they can effectively integrate maintenance tasks, maintenance guarantees, maintenance effects, and other influencing factors for equipment maintainability assessments. This approach can be used to compare or sort the equipment maintainability level based on entropy, as well as to analyze bottleneck factors affecting equipment maintainability.
