In light of the emergence of large-scale and high-tech systems in combat, the current state of security of unmanned combat systems is inadequate, and needs to be improved from many aspects. This paper first analyzes the security-related requirements of unmanned systems from the perspectives of the natural environment, collaborative control, comprehensive confrontation, and the risks posed by autonomous authority. According to these requirements, the objectives of the security of unmanned systems are then summarized and the security-related measures that can be used by them are detailed along four dimensions: improving the adaptability of unmanned systems to the environment, reducing their capability of being detected, strengthening their anti-damage capability, and consolidating the security of their autonomous operation. A collaborative security architecture, with internal and external integration as well as a separation between control and protection, is then proposed by combining the aims of protecting the system’s resources and payload. Finally, trends of development in future work in the area are discussed.
